With a decisive performance from Belén Aquino, La Celeste defeated La Bicolor in a Group A clash at the CONMEBOL Copa América Femenina 2025™.

- Aquino scored the only goal and even had a penalty opportunity.
- Peru still searching for its first points in the tournament.
Uruguay claimed its first win at this CONMEBOL Copa América Femenina 2025™ by defeating Peru 1-0 on Friday, July 18 at the IDV Stadium. Belén Aquino scored the lone goal in the second half.
The match was balanced in the first half, with both teams creating decent chances. Uruguay struck first in the 5th minute, when Aquino fired a shot from the edge of the box, forcing Madden into a save. Peru responded at the 17-minute mark with its best opportunity: Herrera headed a rehearsed free-kick, and Agustina Sánchez made a double save.
The teams traded attacks without much danger until Aquino and Esperanza Pizarro combined on a counter-attack, with Pizarro's shot saved by Madden in the 22nd minute. Later, Molina nearly scored for La Bicolor, but Sánchez parried the shot wide.
After halftime, Uruguay looked more organized and dangerous going forward. Aquino threatened again in the 49th minute, and Pamela González scored at 54'—but the goal was disallowed for offside. Then came the breakthrough: after a poor Peruvian clearance in the 64th minute, Pizarro stole the ball and found Aquino in the box, who calmly finished past goalkeeper Maryory Sánchez.
Uruguay had chances to extend the lead, with Aquino missing a penalty (70') and Pizarro hitting the crossbar (87'), but the No. 10's goal proved enough to seal all three points.
With the win, Uruguay now has four points in Group A, while Peru remains scoreless and still searching for a positive result. Emily Lima's team will try again in the next round against Argentina (Monday, 21), while La Celeste will have a few days off.
